SUMMARY OF POSITION:
RNs in the Medical Intermediate Care Unit (MIMCU) are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a designated group of patients. This 20-bed multidisciplinary unit offers excellent nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 or 2:1, so the RN can truly make an impact on patients and their families. Our team uses advanced technologies such as bladder pressure monitoring, arterial line monitoring, and end-tidal CO2 monitoring to treat a variety of conditions including multi-system organ failure, respiratory distress, sepsis, hematology and oncology, gastrointestinal dysfunction, renal failure, liver failure, substance withdrawal, acid-base and electrolyte imbalances, and endocrine emergencies. In addition, the nurses in the MIMCU are trained to care for patients requiring chronic mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy as well as to administer, monitor, and recover patients requiring conscious sedation for bedside procedures. The MIMCU is a proud recipient of the AACN Silver Beacon Award. CCRN and/or PCCN certification is encouraged and financially rewarded.
Orientation is 8 weeks with a consistent preceptor and ACLS is required within 3 months of hire.
CRITICAL CARE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
Nurses applying for this position will be eligible for enrollment in a 12-month fellowship program following the orientation period. Inclusion in the fellowship will be based on an assessment of the educational and developmental needs of the individual registered nurse. This exciting opportunity will allow nurses to gain knowledge to be proficient and confident delivering quality care for high acuity patients. The fellowship includes didactic learning, classroom lectures and an educational pathway directed toward certification preparation. In addition to this opportunity, every nurse will be paired with a preceptor to help aid the learning process with critical care education and clinical experts throughout their clinical orientation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Registered Nurse with a license to practice professional nursing in the state of Pennsylvania or a Registered Nurse from another state with a Temporary PA Practice Permit
AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 1 year of acute or critical care experience.
Telemetry interpretation experience.
ACLS certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.
Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.
Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.
Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.
Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
