Position Summary:
Provides direct, comprehensive psychiatric assessments, medication management and short-term follow-up care for patients, including adults, adolescents, and children, in the Behavioral Health Assessment Center. Works closely with the Coordinator of the Assessment Center, Crisis Intervention Services, Medical Director of Outpatient Services and the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry to provide clinical excellence to all psychiatric patients presenting for services. Additionally, provides cross coverage, as needed, for the Crisis Intervention Service and Emergency Department, as well as the Psychiatric Consultation Liaison Service and Inpatient Service.
Clinical Functions:
- Provides timely psychiatric evaluations and short-term outpatient follow up treatment for adults, adolescents and children seen in the Behavioral Health Assessment Center.
- Provides timely consultation and/or supervision to Behavioral Health Assessment Center staff regarding patient assessment, disposition planning, treatment or any other clinical issues that may arise.
- Works collaboratively with and provides supervision for Clinical Nurse Specialists working in the Behavioral Health Assessment Center or other areas, as needed, within the Department.
- Consults with, and supervises, team members, as appropriate, to determine the course of patient treatment and recommendations for discharge from treatment.
- Participates in the weekend, evening and holiday on-call psychiatric coverage of patients in the Emergency Department, CIS, inpatient psychiatric service, and the medical-surgical units.
- Provides cross-coverage for other services as needed, including
- Providing timely psychiatric evaluations and on-going treatment for adults, adolescents and children who are patients on the medical/surgical inpatient units.
- Providing timely psychiatric evaluation and on-going treatment, as needed, for adults, adolescents and children on the psychiatric inpatient service.
- Providing timely psychiatric evaluation and on-going treatment, as needed, for adults, adolescents and children in the Crisis Intervention Service/Emergency Department.
Administrative Functions:
- Works with the Chairman and other designated members of the Department to maintain the highest quality of psychiatric care in the Department.
- Works with the Chairman and other designated members of the Department as well as the Coordinator of the Behavioral Health Assessment Center and Atlantic Behavioral Health Assessment Center Manager to provide adequate oversight, supervision and evaluation of clinical work for all clinicians working in the Behavioral Health Assessment Center and, as needed, in others areas of the Department.
- Works with the Chairman and other designated members of the Department as well as the Coordinator of the Behavioral Health Assessment Center to oversee the medical records for patients seen in the Assessment Center for quality, timeliness of completion and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Works with the Chairman and other designated individuals to develop and monitor Performance Improvement initiatives and related clinical review activities.
- Participates regularly in meetings and activities in the Department, including educational, administrative, clinical, and business meetings.
- Represents the Department in hospital-wide committees, as designated by the Chairman.
- Participates in community education and scientific programs for Morristown Medical Center.
- Works with the Chairman and other designated individuals in developing and maintaining exemplary teaching programs for medical students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals in the Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Work collaboratively with the mental health professionals in the Crisis Intervention Services (CIS) and respond to requests for psychiatric consultation from the Emergency Department.
2. Provide psychiatric coverage for psychiatric inpatient services on weekends and holidays.
3. Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team on psychiatric inpatient unit comprised of nurses, social workers, therapists.
4. Provide psychiatric consultation for medical-surgical inpatients on weekends and holidays.
5. Provides clinical supervision of the Clinical Nurse Specialist working in hospital programs. Supervise medical students and residents on call over the weekends and on holidays
The Physician acknowledges that the Hospital is part of the continuum of health care services provided by Atlantic Health System (the "Hospital") and agrees to actively support the health care mission, goals and objectives of the Hospital. In furtherance of the Hospital's quality and continuity of care goals, the Physician agrees to foster the exchange of information consistent with utilizing Electronic Medical Records in rendering services to patients pursuant to this Agreement.
