1MSU is a blended unit with a mix of Med-Tele and PCU level of care patients. Our Medical Specialty unit provides inpatient care to medical patients as well as patients requiring evaluation and medical stabilization prior to moving to a Behavioral Health Unit. We are a unique team that focuses on the complex needs of both medical and psychiatric components of our patients while providing the exceptional care. This team understands the patient from a medical and psychiatric standpoint while working closely with our providers.
Our medical team is board certified in internal medicine with 20+ years each in the practice.
MSU utilizes a multidisciplinary approach by working with both medical hospitalists and psychiatric teams. We understand the importance of mental health in relation to physical health and quality of life. Patient Care Model: RNs, Behavioral health techs, and Patient Care Technicians/Nurse Technicians.
• Patient Care Model: RN’s
• Ratios: 4-5 Patients per RN with the support of behavioral health techs and Patient Care Technicians/Nurse Technician

Our nursing leadership is a dedicated and compassionate team with over 75 years of nursing experience. We highly focus on providing the best possible care for patients and ensuring they are well cared for, comfortable and receiving the best evidence-based care a patient can receive.
Our onboarding program includes PCU training, Crisis Prevention Intervention training, as well as training provided by the center for behavioral health for various psychiatric disorders and conditions.
The role you will contribute:
Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate the physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual, and lifestyle factors of patients. Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and standards of care, regularly evaluating and revising these plans as necessary. Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely, following physician orders and hospital protocols, and monitor for adverse reactions.
* Educate patients and families about health conditions, treatments, medications, and self-care strategies to promote understanding and compliance. Collaborate with medical staff and ancillary departments to coordinate and optimize patient care, ensuring effective communication and teamwork. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient information, care activities, interventions, and outcomes in the medical record.
* Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans and interventions continuously, making necessary adjustments to improve patient health and achieve positive outcomes. Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe healthcare environment. Provide emotional support and therapeutic communication to patients and their families, addressing their emotional and psychological needs.
* Supervise and delegate care provided by members of the healthcare team to ensure quality and efficiency. Engage in continuous professional development and participate in performance improvement activities to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Respond to code situations promptly and effectively, providing necessary interventions to stabilize patients.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
• Ability to work as a Team player within a unit
• Effective verbal and oral communication and problem-solving skills
• EKG (based on patient ; see document EKG and Advanced Life Support Requirements)
• Must be fluent in English (read, verbal and written skills)
• Basic computer skills – must be able to navigate Microsoft windows based programs
• Must be able to use a high level of abstract reasoning to assess patient, evaluate interventions, and revise plan of care according to patient outcomes
Education:
• Associate's of Nursing [Required]
• Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
Work Experience:
• 1+ acute care hospital setting [Preferred]
